About

“I love imagery that takes my mind to new places. Photography captures experiences and human connections that escape words. Through my adventure portraits, I hope to reveal the essence of adventure and the indelible mark that it leaves on the human spirit.”

A black and white portrait

I began climbing, skiing, and paddling in Western Canada twenty years ago. My photography evolved from snapshots taken during my adventures to an obsession and profession. I’ve worked in a wide variety of disciplines including adventure guiding and emergency medical services.

Most of my spare time is spent on mountain, river, and ocean trips with my wife and friends. My objective is to capture the important events during these expeditions. Whether it’s a fleeting shaft of light on a mountain ridge or a brief facial expression under times of adversity, I strive to capture these ephemeral moments.

Through my portraiture I work to reveal the elements of a person’s character. Light, shadow, facial expressions and the environment are my tools. I’ll often add portable studio lights to my backcountry tool kit to help shape my vision of an image.

The intent of my commercial work is to showcase a business and its client experience in a genuine light with memorable photos. I enjoy the creative challenge of meeting a business’s needs for captivating imagery. I believe in making the shoot a great experience for the business and models as this produces the best results.
